WAIT A MINUTE! I thought you said last weekend was going to be a "benny clearing" swell? Hmmm, then you said it would be this weekend. Now your claiming hurricane swell in 2 weeks... : ) (are you Joe Mac in disguise?)

Its all fun to get excited, but I guess I'm the "hope the glass will be full, but damn its tough to predict when the cow will produce some milk so I'll wait till her teets are supa pink and ready to burst before I get excited."

Hey guys and girls BIG BERTHA is here!

A TD just off the African Coast is about to be named Tropical Storm BERTHA today. What is it's projected path? Yeah you guessed it...

African disturbance 92L could develop into tropical depression

A strong tropical wave (Invest 92L) moved off the coast of Africa last night, south of the Cape Verde Islands. This low has the potential to develop into a tropical depression late this week as it moves westwards at 15-20 mph. The low is under about 10 knots of wind shear, which is favorable for development. Sea Surface Temperatures are about 28�C, which is about 2-3�C above average for this date, and well above the 26�C threshold for tropical storm formation. There is not much African dust or dry air near the storm, but so far the low has not been able to generate much heavy thunderstorm activity. The low has plenty of spin, and has developed some broad, curved bands that are a sign of organization. I can't really find any negatives for development, except for climatology--there has never been a tropical depression that has formed east of 34� W longitude in the first half of July (see the first image I posted in yesterday's July Atlantic hurricane outlook). NHC is giving a low chance (less than 20%) that 92L will develop into a tropical depression by Thursday afternoon. Given the system's current disorganization, that's a reasonable forecast. However, all the models are developing this system into a tropical depression by late this week, and I think that the odds rise to a 50% chance of a tropical depression by Saturday. Wind shear is expected to remain low, and the waters will stay warm (above 26�C) for the next 2-3 days of 92L's life.

I got out Friday Saturday and Sunday mornings in Belmar. Also had fun ridable empty waves. I was out around 5:15 am to about 7:30 each day.

Wish I could have been there yesterday and today but I am in Israel for training.

I had dinner at a place on the beach in Tel Aviv and there were a couple of guys out in Kayaks and also a couple of surfers having fun on mushy waist high waves.

I won't be back until the 25th. Hope there is a some swell then.

5 days of rideable surf. I guess were spoiled cause this morning 2 to 3 glassy and I am alone not a soul ,what is wrong with that picture. its great surfing alone catching wave after wave and then floating around . Its summer, waves and nobodys out. even some bigger wedges pushing through but nobody would know cause you were not surfing. I realized today that its nice to surf with a couple people, so take me off the solo soul surfer list .

Can't think of many times I've been called sensible, usually just the opposite, like yesterday, unable to delay gratification and not thinking through to the potential consequences.

Now in the spirit of full disclosure, I can't say what I did yesterday could really be called surfing, but I was stoked anyway even if my physical therapist wasn't.
